10. Jones, Dylan (ジョーンズ、ディロン):
Dylan Jones is a multimedia artist, storyteller, and clothing designer living and working in Los Angeles. His work is inspired by the complexity of the natural and man made systems that inform our lived experience of the world. He treats his art practice as an evolving ecosystem where a recurring lexicon of archetypes: characters, creatures, and deities, engage with his ideas and thematic interests in the physical realm. His most recent body of work is a mixed media series of mythological allegories that use his own memories as a biological substrate and site of narrative exploration. Since receiving his BFA from CalArts in 2021, Dylan has shown work in various galleries across Southern California. In 2022 he launched his brand EYEOFWHOM, through which he sells upcycled clothing with his signature illustration style.

Zihan Huang (Miya)
2nd year master’s student, Graduate Program on Environmental Sciences, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo
Zihan Huang (Miya) is a master’s student at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo. She has lived in Beijing, Hong Kong, Japan, and Switzerland. Her current scientific research interest is using climate proxies (deep-sea mud and abalones) to reconstruct past Antarctic climate and past ocean conditions offshore Sanriku Coast. She loves exploring various artistic tools (drawing, music, video-making, website-making etc.) for science communication and self-expression, especially when she cannot focus on research. In the future, she would like to work in the overlapping fields of science and art as a person who can find the fine balance between sense and sensitivity. Her motto is “work hard, play harder”. She is a human (probably) who prefers chaos over order, vegetables over meat, tea over alcohol, intuition over logic, and last-second over last-minute.

Shoko Hirabayashi
Ph.D., Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo
Shoko Hirabayashi has been a lecturer at the Preliminary for Amami Coastal Research Center, and Department of Local Research of Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, the University of Tokyo since 2020.
Her research is paleoclimate reconstruction based on carbonate geochemistry. She mainly analyzes coral skeletons and speleothems to understand climate change mechanisms across various time scales, especially in the western Pacific. She also works on “Marine Sciences and Local Hopes in Amami”, which is one of the projects in “Implementation of the Subtropical Kuroshio Research and Education Center” that aims to contribute to the community through evaluating changes in the Japanese environment and ecosystem in the Anthropocene”.
Dr. Yusuke Yokoyama is a Professor at the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, The University of Tokyo. He is also appointed at the School of Science as well as at Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences. He received his PhD from The Australian National University (2000). He then moved to the Space Sciences Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley as a postdoctoral chemist, and then was appointed as a research scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Department of Energy, USA, before returning to Japan in late 2002. He was a lecturer at the Department of Earth and Planetary Science until 2008 and then moved to the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, where he was an associate professor before becoming a full professor. His research interest is to better understand physics and interactions of Earth’s various components.
